Loray Mill Project

The Loray Mill Project, covers a historic preservation of the 1900-1920's Loray Mill Mill houses in Gastonia, NC. The project includes one mill house type A proposed for 2 different users; a millennial and a baby boomer. Millennial Perspective: The Loray Mill, mill houses are getting a proposed fresh look just like the Loray Mill apartments. This is perfect for a single millenial looking to establsih their first home. I wanted to give a millenial a multiuse home where rooms can adjust with them. Large kicthen islands and living spaces makes it easy to do work outside of the office but also provide a place to entertain friends. My design aimed to take an originallocation and make it more modern for any potential user. Boomer Perspective: The Loray Mill, mill houses are perfect for Boomer couples looking to scale down. I aimed to capture that home asthetic by having the more communal aspects of a home towards the front and the private areas in the back. The layout I designed gives Boomers the space for entertaining family but also having a space of their own. As Loray Mill community grows active Boomers can still feel apart of a thriving community.
